About Emily A. Dinwiddie‑Cole

(also known as Evangeline Gearheart, the hearthkeeper behind Dinwiddie Hearth Bakery)

Emily A. Dinwiddie‑Cole carries a rich, four‑branch heritage shaped by Scotland, America, Hawai‘i, and Polynesia. Born and raised in America, she grew up with the stories and flavours of her family’s diverse roots woven into everyday life.

On her father’s side, Emily has traced the Dinwiddie line back through her 7th Great‑Grandfather, Lawrence Dinwiddie, Lord Provost Magistrate of Glasgow, and her 7th Great‑Uncle, Robert Dinwiddie, Governor of Virginia. Through her mother’s Vergason/Ferguson line, she followed the historical surname shift that reaches back to the Battle of Dunbar, connecting her to deep Scottish and early American history.

Her island ancestry comes through her maternal line as well — a Hawai‘ian grandmother and a Polynesian great‑grandmother whose heritage adds warmth, resilience, and cultural depth to Emily’s identity.

The recipes she bakes today are drawn from these intertwined traditions: the hearth flavours of Glasgow and Dumfries, the comforting sweets of her American upbringing, and the gentle island influences carried through her Hawai‘ian and Polynesian lineage. Emily has been cooking and baking these dishes for more than 25 years, keeping the flavours of her family alive in her own kitchen.

The truest measure of her craft comes from her husband, a West Yorkshire native raised near the Scotland–England border, who insists her recipes taste “spot on.”

Today, Emily shares the heart of these traditions through her bakery persona, Evangeline Gearheart, the warm, welcoming hearthkeeper of Dinwiddie Hearth Bakery — where heritage, comfort, and small‑batch baking come together.
